Keep your Garbage Disposal Fresh as a Daisy

Plumbing Tip # 11

1.  Never run chicken bones down your garbage disposal; they cause the blades to lock up.

2.  Never run grease down the garbage disposal, especially with cold water.  The grease is going to gel and plug the line.

3.  Never run very hot water through the garbage disposal for a long period of time.  This will cause the unit to actually shut itself off.  The units are not designed to take 140 degree water through them on a regular basis.

4.  Do not run ice through your garbage disposal to sharpen the blades.  All that does is knock around.  Ice doesn't sharpen anything.

5.  If it's green and stringy, don't put it down the garbage disposal.

6.  Never put egg shells or coffee grounds in the unit.  Putting coffee grounds into the garbage disposal is just like dumping sand in it, plus they're high in acid.  Have enough water to flush it through, or it basically just sits there.  Potato peels are another NO NO - they stick like glue!

 7.  Do not put a lemon in your garbage disposal to keep it smelling fresh.  The acid in the lemon will actually eat up the blades over time.

8.  Keep the foul odors and harmful bacteria from wafting up out of your garbage disposal and into your sink and kitchen work area by treating your garbage disposal with Bio-Clean once a month.

TESTIMONIAL

If you are buying a home in middle Tennessee, don't trust your plumbing inspection to a home inspector, appraiser or realtor. After we purchased and moved into our home in Jackson County, we spent weeks with plumbers who could not find our septic tank.  Even an official from the health department came out to show the backhoe operator where to dig, but after hours of misses, he gave up, as well.

We were having a lot of problems with the plumbing, and nobody could fix them.  After asking around, a neighbor told us about Leigh Plumbing's video pipe inspection service.

That's when we discovered that our septic tank was located under the house!

If I had known about Leigh Plumbing's video pipe inspection services before we bought this house, we never would have bought it in the first place, or watched over $130,000.00 go "down the drain."

Don't ever buy a home without calling Leigh Plumbing first.
